How does Israel justify it's illegal occupation of the west bank and the gaza strip?

Not only does Israel occupy these territories illegally, they have set up jewish only settlements on palastinian land which are in direct violation of the geneva convention. Why does the west support such clearly illegal actions.

.

The West Bank and Gaza are disputed, not occupied, with both Israel and the Palestinians exercising legitimate historical claims. There was no Palestinian sovereignty in the West Bank and Gaza Strip prior to 1967. Jews have a deep historic and emotional attachment to the land and, as their legal claims are at least equal to those of Palestinians, it is natural for Jews to build homes in communities in these areas, just as Palestinians build in theirs.

There is no such thing as palestine or palestineans they are syrian arabs attempting to steal more and more of israels tiny piece of land in the middle east.

Illegal? As far as I'm concerned all of the land should be given to the Israelis and any other peaceful races. The Israelis are not the ones provoking the violence in the region. Is it asking too much to live free and in peace? Should they have to deal with rocket attacks constantly and suicide bombers killing innocent civilians? The Israelis are more then fair when it comes down to the politics of the region and striving for peace with neighboring countries. It's clear that your vision is one of hatred and violence if you believe Israel is in the wrong.

Isn't this question about twenty years out of date?

Israel unilaterally withdrew from Gaza a year or two ago. More than half the West Bank is governed by the Palestinian Authority. The part that is still governed by Israel is sanctioned by the Oslo accords and other agreements.

Because these territories have no legit national "owner" and thus Israel must maintain security in them. There is no such thing as a "Palestinian" state, It simply doesn't exist and it never has, so it's hard to take any claims that it's "Palestinian" land seriously.

If you want to make a more meaningful argument, you can argue that it's Arab territory. Although that's a bit shady as well.. since the territory in question has only been under Arab control for about 20 years in the last 800.

When you can clearly define "palastinian land", we may be able to answer your question better.

While you are at it, can you explain why it is OK for Arabs to live there but not Jews from your point of view?

They don't, the support comes from individuals, mainly in the US. No government supports these activities as they do break international law.

In the EU, no Israeli goods produced in the occupied territories can be bought or sold.
