How long does it take before a squatter attains legal title to the land he is squatting on?

Plus: How long does it take on the West Bank?

Israel could have annexed the West Bank a few decades ago. I guess they're not the EVIL GENIUSES you comic-book-thinking folks think they are. LOL

Care to discuss how Israel came to possess the West Bank and Gaza, bunky??

It depends state-to-state. Usually it's something like ten years of open, obvious possession of the land. It's called adverse possession. The landlord has to know about it and do nothing, though, so that sometimes does not apply to squatters. You can read more about it in the Wikipedia article I am attaching.

I am not too sure about the law in the West Bank, that's beyond my jurisdiction :)

Not sure about the West Bank, but in the US it's 10 years. But you have to prove that you have been there the whole time and that nobody has been maintaining it. Then lucky you get to pay taxes for the land you have been squatting on. The land however can not be owned by the government in any way, it has to be privately held land

A squatter cannot ever attain legal title to land through adverse possession since one of the requirements is that the possession be under claim of right. Since a squatter knows that he does not own the property, there's no claim of right and therefore no way to attain title.

Re: the West Bank - war obviates claims of title.
