Why won't Israel stop building on the West Bank property even though we the US don't want them to?

Hillary doesn't want them to build on that land anymore to speed up peace talks. So why doesn't Israel stop?

Because we can not order the whole world around..

Iran hasn't obeyed us either about their nuclear program.

The Taliban seems to not obey us about stopping their terrorist activities..

Hillary just doesn't seem to be able to bring them in line with the big O's policies..

Because of something in an ancient text saying that "god" gave the land to the people of Abraham "forever". Bunch of crap.

simple - the Israelis seem to think they have a divine mandated claim to that land which precludes sharing it with those not of the Jewish faith

If you wanted to build a deck in your backyard and your next door neighbor decided to tell you you can't do it, how would you feel about it?

Because the USA is scared. Bombing Iraq is a vote winner, not bombing Israel, so the Israelis know they can disregard the USA - about time someone did, though the Israelis are clearly wrong in their actions. For more USA misadventures read this:

I suspect Israel has some fundies in the gov.

But hey, if you think that "God gave your people some holy land" then pretty much all your reason's gone out the window anyway. So if you're that batshit crazy then don't expect noble deeds from fundies.

Jews don't admit Jesus did away with old covenant of land...worship in Spirit and Truth, not on mountain as He told woman at the well...fact is, the Jews who fight and kill aren't very devout in any other aspect of their lives, so it's an excuse for material gain. Most Jews don't believe in afterlife, so get all they can now.

Israel is a sovereign nation! The US needs to butt out, and BiBi is just the man to tell us to do so!

The US is dead-set on allowing the palestinians to overrun Israel, and I am ecstatic to see Israel offering some resistance to those desires.

Wrong category.

Nxile, Israel is a sovereign nation? lol! How could they ever have been a "sovereign nation" without US support? How many supporters or allies does Israel have except for the US? I'm just glad that the US is finally saying "no" to Israel... perhaps they will be a little bit less vicious to their neighbors once they realize the US does not support them as much as they think.

because they know they don't have to.

the jews got that land by force and the christians allowed it and still allow it. i am fine with that, but then don't call yourselves democracies/civilized nations and don't be angry when the muslim try to fight back for the land that was taken.

Since when do other sovereign nations have to listen to the USA when it comes to internal affairs. Technically speaking, the "West Bank" is within the international boundaries that were promised to Israel in the Balfour Declaration, the League of Nations Mandate, and the Trans-Jordan Partition.

Let the USA complain about Chinese invasion of Tibetan lands and the Chinese settlers in Tibet, or the many examples of Russian settlers invading areas that should have been the sole domain of the local indigenous populations. And while we're at it, why is it that Sudan, and Arab country, was given control of areas belonging to indigenous black populations?

Oh, you mean something like the recent disengagement from Gaza when the Palestinians INCREASED their daily barrage of rockets into Israel immediately after the disengagement?

Twice before, Israel has shown a willingness to uproot Jewish communities for the sake of peace: in the Sinai (given back to Egypt in the 1979 Peace Treaty) and in Gaza (from which Israel withdrew unilaterally in 2005). The existence of settlements in these areas is no bar to a peace deal under which they might be withdrawn.

"If the Arabs put down their weapons, there would be peace. If the Israelis put down their weapons, there would be no Israel."

Are Palestinians the first refugee population in history? Hardly. But they are surely the first refugees who, as a group, have categorically RESISTED RESETTLEMENT, instead living for decades as wards of the international community. Indeed, in Gaza today, years after Israel renounced any territorial claims, there continue to be refugee camps. Why? Why -- other than to serve as incubators for hatred that produce recruits bent on martyrdom and mayhem -- are there Palestinian refugee camps in Palestinian territory?

Before 1967, the Arab population was declining in the West Bank and Gaza, but under “brutal occupation” as Arabs call it, the Arab population started to increase!

“We will have peace with the Arabs when they love their children more than they hate us.” Golda Meir 1957, before the National Press Club in Washington

We can forgive you for killing our sons. But we will never forgive you for making us kill yours. Golda Meir, to Anwar Saddat just before the peace talks. Israeli (Russian-born) politician (1898 - 1978)

The Israelies just want the free 6 BILLION a year FREE MONEY(forgiven loans), then thumb their noses at we Americans. If your neighbor built a deck on YOUR property, you would react like the Palestinians. The israelies started the land thefts then murders along with it-1922, 1954, 1956, 1967(love to call the Six Day War, a PREEMPTIVE(fancy word for STARTED it) strike. In 1973, Egypt exhausted all peace attempt with Israel to get the Sinai bac, so attacked Israel and got it back. In 2005, Israel left military posts in Gaza, kept air, warer, and land rights, used manned and unmanned survelliance, refused the Palestinians a military, controled entrance/exit of the borders, and set curfews-doesn't seem like freedom to me-so they only pulled out THE ILLEGAL settlements THAT SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE.

The Jews stole Arab land through murder. Before being called Arabs, they were called many names. Arabs predate Islam. The Thamud were a people of ancient Arabia, either a tribe or a group of tribes, that created a large kingdom and flourished from 3000 BC to 200 BC.: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ancient_Arabs

Problem is misinterpretation of God's promise(residency, NOT, ownership) and the British Mandate(political, NOT, land borders-read closely-Arab Palestine was to remain one country.Biblically(Ishmael 23 years before Isaac), scientifically(Arab J1 marker in the region for 40,000 years-millenia BEFORE the Jews) , and, by Jewish leader's admission, the Arabs were in the Arabian, NOT, Jewish Peninsula(Israel a part of)/ Canaan/ God's promised land FIRST, and have always been the MAJORITY.

Actually, it started in Biblical times when Isaac stole Ishmael's inheritance. In modern times it started in 1922(Arab armies-no Jews participated(outside of Arab Palestine, Jews fought with the Ottomans)-threw off the Ottoman Empire Occupiers(few Turks owned land in Arab Palestine)-the UN then assigned Britain as an occupier when the ILLEGAL Foreign European Jewish immigrants swelled Arab Palestine's(93% Arab) from less than 5% Middle Eastern Jews to 35%(mostly European Jews). These Jews became belligerent, demanding a chunk of Arab Palestine for a homeland from the British UN assigned occupiers. The British attempted to set up POLITICAL, NOT, land borders for Jews and Arabs-this is the British Mandate. The Jews were not satisfied and formed murderous Jewish terrorist groups, labeled as such by the British-Likud(oops, IRGUN before being elected), the Stern Gang, Lehi, Levi, Haganah, and many others and started slaughtering their Arab hosts and stealing THEIR land to ILLEGALLY form Israel(UN ratified a day AFTER the fact) in 1948. The Israelies continue stealing Arab land through murder up to the present. They must stop laying the blame on God and the British.

In the Bible/Torah-the Jebusites stole palestine from the Arabs and the Jews stole it from the Jebusites. The Arabs fighting with the Romans regained Palestine at which time Islam came into being.

I wonder how many do not know, the Arabs owned almost all of Canaan, including Arab Palestine. They were not called Arabs at the time, but Ishmalites/Canaanites/Arvi(Hebrew term for Arab).Yes and so very TRUE. God's promised land was only one of residency, NOT, ownership as was the British Mandate(political, NOT, land borders-read closely-Arab Palestine to remain ONE country). The Arabs were always FIRST and MAJORITY owners of the ARABIAN, NOT, JEWISH Peninsula(Israel a part of)/Canaan/God's promised land. Except for non Arab Iran, and, until 1948, Israel., ARAB owned it. Israel would have to kill ALL the Arabs and non Arab Iranians(Israel working on that one) and steal all their land to get it.NO WHERE in the Bible, nor, the British Mandate does it state Israel is to kill the Arabs and steal their land-NO WHERE-they need to quit laying the blame on God and the British.

According to Israel, they are not at war with the Palestinians, but with the Hamas, so what reason do they have to steal Palestinian land and kill Palestinians to do it-pure blood lust, nothing more.

She is brought to her knees for her indiscretions(this can ONLY be the Palestinian situation) Nation up on nation shall rise up against her-sound familiar-even the US, her only supporter is changing direcection. God intervenes and Israel is turned from her wicked ways. A NEW Jerusalem, possibly shared, instead of divided as is now, arises. This is in the Bible.

The truth is that Jews (not Israel) bought about 7% of the land before 1948. Most of the rest was owned by Palestinians as documented by the British Mandate. The remaining land was STOLEN from the Palestinians AS DOCUMENTED BY THE BRITISH:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Man...

The Arabs of Canaan are the Arabs of Palestine. They were there AT LEAST EQUALLY as long as the Jews/Israelis, but they had a constant presence and a defined land. The Jews were nomadic and had NO land until what was taken from the Palestinians in 1948. Both Jews and Arabs have the same father, Abraham, whom although Semitic, possibly Hebrew, was not considered Jewish. Abraham, his parents, and his ancestry is from Babylon, which is, in fact, INSIDE the Arabian Peninsula, the origin of the Arab peoples. So he may very well have been Arab.

Palestine is a name which has been widely used since Roman times to refer to the region that includes contemporary Israel and the Palestinian territories, parts of Jordan, and parts of Lebanon and Syria. In its narrow meaning, it refers to the area within the boundaries of the former British Mandate of Palestine (1920-1948) west of the Jordan River.

Palestine can also refer to the Proposed Palestinian State.

The name and the borders of Palestine have varied throughout history, though Palestine has certain natural boundaries that justify its historical individuality. Other terms that have been used to refer to all or part of this area include Arabistan, Canaan, Greater Israel, Greater Syria, the Holy Land, Iudaea Province, Israel, "Israel HaShlema", Kingdom of Israel, Kingdom of Jerusalem, Land of Israel, Levant, Retenu (Ancient Egyptian), Southern Syria, and Syria Palestina.

Early archeological textual reference to the territory of Palestine is found in the Merneptah Stele, dated c. 1200 BCE, containing a recount of Egyptian king Merneptah's victories in the land of Canaan, mentioning place-names such as Gezer, Ashkelon and Yanoam, along with Israel, which is mentioned using a hieroglyphic determinative that indicates a nomad people, rather than a state.

***The promise that is the basis of the term "promised land" is contained in Genesis 15:18-21 of the Hebrew Bible and God CLEARLY states whom the land belongs to:

"On that day the LORD made a covenant with Abraham and said, "To your descendants I give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates - the land of the Kenites, Kenizzites, Kadmonites, Hittites, Perizzites, Rephaites, Amorites, Canaanites, Girgashites and Jebusites." Of all these people, only the Palestinians whom are considered Canaanites, are still around. Except for Iran and Israel, Arabs own all of what was Canaan.***

The verse is said to describe what are known as "Borders of the Land" (Gevulot Ha-aretz). In Jewish tradition these borders define the maximum extent of the land promised to the descendants of Abraham through his son Isaac(2nd born-the Jewish lineage and Ishmael the 1st born and the Arab lineage) and grandson Jacob.Even according to Hebrew customs, the oldest son, which is Ishmael, is entitled to the father's inheritance, but because Sarah despised Ishmael, she wanted Isaac to get the inheritance and had Abraham exhile Ishmael. Neither is Ishmael illegitimate but the legal son of his SECOND wife Hagar-Genesis 16: "And Sarah Abraham's wife took Hagar her maid the Egyptian, after Abraham had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to her husband Abraham to be his WIFE(my emphasis).By Hebrew tradition, when one or the other spouse can not perform their duties, the remaining spouse can the partner's closest relative/ friend to legally fulfill those duties-in this case Hagar.

"On that day Yahweh made a covenant with Abraham, saying, "To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt as far as the great river, the river Euphrates. (Genesis15:18)"Ishamael was Abraham's FIRST born. The promise is made to Abraham and the descendants of his son Ishmael(According to Hebrew law, the first born gets ALL the inheritance), Isaac, and Isaac's son Jacob, Abraham's grandson as they are all given promise that their descendants will be given a territory from the river of Egypt to the Euphrates river. No where does it say the Israelis/Jews OWNED the land, nor were they to take it from, and, kill the Palestinians. The Israelis/Jews were given a land ONLY to reside in as many Jews already had among the Palestinians.

*According to Alexander Scholch, GERMAN JEW AND PROFESSIONAL HISTORIAN, the population of Palestine in 1850 had about 350,000 inhabitants, 30% of whom lived in 13 towns; roughly 85% were Muslims(Arabs), 11% were Christians and 4% Jews.Scholch, 1985, p. 503.

Even according to Hebrew law, Ishmael, not Isaac, was entitled to Abraham's inheritance

Deuteronomy 31 (King James Version)

Deuteronomy 31

1And Moses went and spake these words unto all Israel.

2And he said unto them, I am an hundred and twenty years old this day; I can no more go out and come in: also the LORD hath said unto me, Thou shalt not go over this Jordan.

3The LORD thy God, he will go over before thee, and he will destroy these nations from before thee, and thou shalt possess them: and Joshua, he shall go over before thee, as the LORD hath said.

4And the LORD shall do unto them as he did to Sihon and to Og, kings of the Amorites, and unto the land of them, whom he destroyed.

5And the LORD shall give them up before your face, that ye may do unto them according unto all the commandments which I have commanded you.

6Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

7And Moses called unto Joshua, and said unto him in the sight of all Israel, Be strong and of a good courage: for thou must go with this people unto the land which the LORD hath sworn unto their fathers to give them; and thou shalt cause them to inherit it.

8And the LORD, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.

9And Moses wrote this law, and delivered it unto the priests the sons of Levi, which bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and unto all the elders of Israel.

10And Moses commanded them, saying, At the end of every seven years, in the solemnity of the year of release, in the feast of tabernacles,

11When all Israel is come to appear before the LORD thy God in the place which he shall choose, thou shalt read this law before all Israel in their hearing.

12Gather the people together, men and women, and children, and thy stranger that is within thy gates, that they may hear, and that they may learn, and fear the LORD your God, and observe to do all the words of this law:

13And that their children, which have not known any thing, may hear, and learn to fear the LORD your God, as long as ye live in the land whither ye go over Jordan to possess it.

14And the LORD said unto Moses, Behold, thy days approach that thou must die: call Joshua, and present yourselves in the tabernacle of the congregation, that I may give him a charge. And Moses and Joshua went, and presented themselves in the tabernacle of the congregation.

15And the LORD appeared in the tabernacle in a pillar of a cloud: and the pillar of the cloud stood over the door of the tabernacle.

16And the LORD said unto Moses, Behold, thou shalt sleep with thy fathers; and this people will rise up, and go a whoring after the gods of the strangers of the land, whither they go to be among them, and will forsake me, and break my covenant which I have made with them.

17Then my anger shall be kindled against them in that day, and I will forsake them, and I will hide my face from them, and they shall be devoured, and many evils and troubles shall befall them; so that they will say in that day, Are not these evils come upon us, because our God is not among us?

18And I will surely hide my face in that day for all the evils which they shall have wrought, in that they are turned unto other gods.

19Now therefore write ye this song for you, and teach it the children of Israel: put it in their mouths, that this song may be a witness for me against the children of Israel.

20For when I shall have brought them into the land which I sware unto their fathers, that floweth with milk and honey; and they shall have eaten and filled themselves, and waxen fat; then will they turn unto other gods, and serve them, and provoke me, and break my covenant.

21And it shall come to pass, when many evils and troubles are befallen them, that this song shall testify against them as a witness; for it shall not be forgotten out of the mouths of their seed: for I know their imagination which they go about, even now, before I have brought them into the land which I sware.

22Moses therefore wrote this song the same day, and taught it the children of Israel.

23And he gave Joshua the son of Nun a charge, and said, Be strong and of a good courage: for thou shalt bring the children of Israel into the land which I sware unto them: and I will be with thee.

24And it came to pass, when Moses had made an end of writing the words of this law in a book, until they were finished,

25That Moses commanded the Levites, which bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD, saying,

26Take this book of the law, and put it in the side of the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, that it may be there for a witness against thee.

27For I know thy rebellion, and thy stiff neck: behold, while I am yet alive with you this day, ye have been rebellious against the LORD; and how much more after my death?
