Why did god tell Moses to take gold and silver from Egyptians in Exodus?

I was reading this and I was wondering why he told him. Is it for the bank for the Holy Land? Or for redemption for the years of bondage?

it was back pay

I think it was a reward for the Jews, for having suffered such misery, and also punishment for the Egyptians, so they would be extremely poor. In addition, the Jews were able to use some of this money to use for the counting in the desert. I can't say this part with certianty, but I also think that some of the money was used to donate to the Temple/Mishkan when it was being established.

Your second answer- The children of Israel borrowed of the Egyptians jewels of silver--When the Orientals go to their sacred festivals, they always put on their best jewels. The Israelites themselves thought they were only going three days' journey to hold a feast unto the Lord, and in these circumstances it would be easy for them to borrow what was necessary for a sacred festival. But borrow conveys a wrong meaning. The word rendered borrow signifies properly to ask, demand, require. The Israelites had been kept in great poverty, having received little or no wages. They now insisted on full remuneration for all their labor, and it was paid in light and valuable articles adapted for convenient carriage.

For the TEMPLE in the Desert.

Exodus 35 ?

All who were willing, men and women alike, came and brought gold jewelry of all kinds: brooches, earrings, rings and ornaments. They all presented their gold as a wave offering to the LORD.

Because during their exodus they built the tabernacle which recquired lots of gold and silver.

Homicide is correct.

Payment for the years of slavery.
